It's Zombie Movie Veterans' Week here at Mail Order Zombie Central! Larry Purtell, veteran zombie movie actor (Zombie Campout, Die-Ner (Get It?), Dozers, Zombie Ed), drops by for an interview with Brother D and answers the question: "How does one go from acting in church plays to wrangling zombies?" (Mr. Purtell was very generous with his time, and has sent Mail Order Zombie several photos from his time working on Zombie Campout as well as at the Silo X Haunted Attraction, and throughout the week, these pics will turn up on MailOrderZombie.com.) Another zombie movie veteran - Trent Haaga - also gets a little love this week when Brother D reviews 2002's Dead & Rotting (he appears in front of the camera in this one!) and the upcoming release Deadgirl (he wrote this one!). Miss Bren hits the backhalf of the show for a massive Feedback Discussion in which the [REC] vs. Quarantine conversation continues, we talk about Swan Song a bit more, and there's news about Phantasm II. (Brother D and Miss Bren also appeared on Dead Lantern's World Famous Splattercast this week in Episode 141 to discuss the Mad Max franchise. Brother D also joined Desmond Reddick to discuss the film scores of Clive Barker in Episode 100 of Dread Media.) Mail Order Zombie and the Midnight Podcast are teaming up for a crossover mini-roundtable Q&A, and while Corey and Brother D can certainly sit and just stare at each other for half an hour, it might be more fun for the listeners to participate by submitting their own questions to be bandied between the two of them! If you’ve ever wanted to know what these two titans of zombie movie knowledge think, email your questions now to MailOrderZombie@gmail.com. This recording is happening Saturday, August 1st, so we need your questions ASAP. Corey’s posting a similar call for questions at his website. Here’s the twist - Brother D isn’t going to see the questions Corey gathers and Corey isn’t going to see the questions Brother D gathers, so the answers will come as fast and furious as a 28 Days-style zombie. (That’s right. We called them zombies. What?) We can’t promise we’ll get to all the questions if we get a lot, but we’ll certainly try! This is gonna rock, y’all! |

Where else are you going to go to hear about a zombie opera? No where but Episode 78 of Mail Order Zombie. Brother D and Miss Bren attended Maelstrom: The Zombie Opera last weekend, and they bring you a review of the production as well as interviews with the cast and crew. (Mail Order Zombie would like to thank Reed Reimer, Ben Larson, Nico Izambard, Viktor Maddok, Damien Brooksbank, Claire Craig-Sheets, Anna Viemester, Jeremy Griffin, Bryan Coover and the staff of the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center for hosting us and giving us a moment of their time.) Maelstrom: The Zombie Opera runs through July 25th, 2009. Also this week, in Miss Bren's Post Script, she reviews the short zombie novel Dead Earth: The Green Dawn by Mark Justice and David T. Wilbanks. Movie-wise, Brother D reviews the Joseph D. Smith zombie movie Zombie Campout from 2003. Answers for the July Zombie Aptitude Test are still due, and in the Feedback Discussion, the movies [REC] and Quarantine get a little more discussion . . . among other things. If you're in the Pacific Northwest, and you're a zombie movie fan, you owe it to yourself to see Maelstrom: The Zombie Opera at the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center in Portland, OR. We'll be covering this in Episode 78 (with interviews!), but the show only runs one more weekend - July 23rd, 24th and 25th - so if you're interested, and you're in the area, you need to see Maelstrom. You can learn more about Maelstrom: The Zombie Opera at http://www.zombieopera.net.

Episode 77 marks a milestone for us here at Mail Order Zombie - can you guess what it is before Brother D fails to keep anyone in suspense and mentions what the milestone is less than one minute into this week's show? Speaking of suspense, Miss Bren and Brother D sat down to watch [REC] from directors Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, and then Brother D reviewed the Blaine Cade and Jason Horton directed upcoming zombie apocalypse movie Edges of Darkness. One of these two movies made Brother D jump. You'll have to listen to the reviews to find out which one. O'Day is back with Part Two of his Undead Combat series in MOZ's Survival Tips, and this time around, he goes over the use of firearms in a world overrun by the undead. After Need-a-Nickname Scott joins Jay Emmitt for this week's Zombie Beat, he poses a question to the MOZ Family; Brother D has a question of his own; and of course, there's the Zombie Aptitude Test question as well! The show runs a bit long this week because Miss Bren and Brother D tried to squeeze in as many emails and voicemails as possible in this week's Feedback Discussion, and Wayne Kotke does it again - we'll just leave it at that. It's finally happened! Mail Order Zombie tackles an Asian zombie movie! Versus, directed by Ryûhei Kitamura, gets more than the review treatment - both Brother D and Miss Bren watched the film and discuss it at length in this episode. And because Brother D couldn't get enough samurai sword action, he also reviews Ninjas vs. Zombies from writer/director Justin Timpane. This month's Zombie Aptitude Test question, the weekly Feedback Discussion and a chunk of zombie news in the Zombie Beat round out this episode. Hang on! (There's also been a request to release Episode 075 without the Roundtable attached, and since we aim to please . . . Here it is!) Episode 75 of Mail Order Zombie is our most bedazzled yet! To celebrate Independence Day in the US, Brother D reviews the movie Uncle Sam, directed by William Lustig, and he's only reviewing one movie this week so that there's room for the jam-packed Feedback Discussion and the Zombie Aptitude Test answers from last month's ZAT question. This episode runs a bit longer than normal, and that's because in addition to the hefty Feedback, we've got a first here at Mail Order Zombie - we've got the First MOZ Roundtable featuring Brother D and a handful of regular Mail Order Zombie contributors. (Truth be told, there were some audio issues with the recording, so the Roundtable has been moved to the end of the episode. There's some great discussion and content here, but Skype and the other powers that be seemed to be interested in contribution their own hissy two cents worth as well, so please be patient with the audio quality!) The episode starts with a mini-tribute to Michael Jackson's Thriller music video, and this runs about 15 minutes, and then the show is off and running!
