From writer/podcaster Mark Justice's website: David Wilbanks and I have sold Dead Earth: The Vengeance Road to Permuted Press. The novel is a sequel to Dead Earth: The Green Dawn, and should be out in 2010. "They crossed over from another world, bringing death and domination to Earth. With demonic technology they can raise the dead into an unholy conquering army. The "necros" destroyed Jubal Slate’s home and everyone he loved. Now the only thing that matters to Slate is payback. No matter how far he has to go or how many undead warriors he must slaughter, Slate and his motley band of followers will stop at nothing to end the reign of the aliens. Even if it costs them their lives. When you’ve lost everything, the only thing left is vengeance." Where can you go every May to watch zombie (and vampire) movies? Zompire: The Undead Film Festival. Where can you go to hear about the festival if you missed the event? Mail Order Zombie. In Episode 70 of MOZ, Brother D covers the event, reviewing some of the zombie movies shown (The Revenant and Morgue Story: Blood, Blowfish & Comics and a number of zombie short movies), interviewing filmmaker Kerry Prior, festival director Andrew Migliore and game designer Scott Glancy, and hanging with Mail Order Zombie Family Member O'Day. Additionally, Zombie Hunter Tony calls in a report from a local Zombie Prom. Zombie events aside, we can't let a week go by without a DVD or book review; Brother D reviews Zombiegeddon, directed by Chris Watson; and in Miss Bren's Post Script, David Wellington's Monster Island gets a little critical attention. You've got until next week to submit your answers to the current Zombie Aptitude Test which was inspired by the mockumentary The Zombeatles: All You Need is Brains, so get singing, y'all! The backhalf of the episode is set aside for the weekly Feedback Discussion, where not only do we talk about zombie movies and answer listener emails and voicemails, but Brother D questions . . . Canadian gangs? And Miss Bren finally puts her foot down; Brother D's zombie books have no place in the bathroom. Email us at MailOrderZombie@gmail.com or call us at 206-202-2505! Focus Features just sent this over to MOZ Central: A new era in animated storytelling begins on 9.9.09. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton (The Corpse Bride, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory) and Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Nightwatch) join forces to produce wunderkind director Shane Acker’s distinctively original and thrilling tale. 9 stars Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer and Crispin Glover and features the music of Danny Elfman. When 9 (The Lord of the Ring’s Elijah Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they'll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them. Become a fan of the official 9 Facebook Page here:

What better way to celebrate Episode 69 of Mail Order Zombie than to review the movies Erotic Nights of the Living Dead and Orgy of the Dead? That not enough for you? Miss Bren's Post Script tackles the naughty bits (and the non-naughty-bits) of the vampire/zombie novel Roses of Blood on Barbwire Vines. We don't spend the entire episode in the gutter; Mathew from Shelbytownship, Michigan, shares another installment of the ABC's of Zombies, and there's a sneak preview (courtesy of Third Coast Zed) of some of the answers we've received so far for May's Zombie Aptitude Test. And did somebody say, "pickles?" Email us at MailOrderZombie@gmail.com or call us at 206-202-2505! It's Zombie Girl week here at Mail Order Zombie as Brother D and Miss Bren are reviewing the movies Pathogen, directed by Emily Hagins (this is the only zombie movie to be directed by a twelve-year-old girl); and Zombie Girl: The Movie, directed by Justin Johnson, Aaron Marshall and Erik Mauck (the documentary following the production of Pathogen). Brother D is also reviewing the Christopher Thomas score from Zombie Girl: The Movie. In Miss Bren's Post Script, Jake's Wake, written by John Skipp and Cody Goodfellow, gets a little attention, and Mathew from Shelbytownship, Michigan, drops a few more ABCs of Zombies. We're still taking answers for the current Zombie Aptitude Test as well. The backhalf of the show is devoted to the weekly Feedback Discussion, so you'll want to check that out for this week's emails and voicemails, as well as a slip of the tongue that has given Brother D a few interesting ideas for a t-shirt design (or not!) (And remember, Brother D will be attending the Zompire Film Festival May 15-17 here in Portland, OR, where he's most excited about seeing Day of the Dead on the big screen! Check out that film festival at http://www.zompire.com.) Email us at MailOrderZombie@gmail.com or call us at 206-202-2505! Episode 67 of Mail Order Zombie is packed and stacked with over 3 hours of zombie goodness! Brother D reviews the mockumentary The Zombeatles: All You Need is Brains, as well as the upcoming zombie feature Deadlands 2: Trapped. Gary Ugarek, the writer/director of Deadlands 2: Trapped also joins Brother D for an information-filled interview in which he discusses his zombie extra experiences on the set of two big budget zombie movies, his reasoning behind directing two independent zombie movies of his own, his thoughts on film music in zombie movies, and if you stick around to the end of the show, he'll even talk about . . . food(?). In Miss Bren's Post Script, she sits down with Brother D to talk about the Margaret Atwood post-apocalyptic/dystopian future novels The Handmaid's Tale and Oryx and Crake. Mathew from Shelbytownship, Michigan, launches his new series, the ABCs of Zombies, and the answers from the April Zombie Aptitude are reviewed before the new monthly ZAT question is introduced for May. All this, plus a smattering of Feedback makes this episode of Mail Order Zombie one of the most content-heavy to date, so strap in and make sure you pack a lunch! Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release [REC], the international smash hit that inspired the Screen Gems film Quarantine, on DVD July 14, 2009. Winner of multiple awards including two Goya Awards (Spain’s Movie Awards) including Best New Actress for Manuela Velasco (Law of Desire), [REC] includes “REC: Making-Of” Featurette and both English and original Spanish language versions of the film. A beautiful TV reporter and her cameraman are doing a routine interview at a local fire station when an emergency call comes in. Accompanying the firefighters to a nearby apartment, the news team begins recording the bloodcurdling screams coming from inside an elderly woman's unit. After authorities seal off the building to contain the threat, the news crew, firefighters and residents are trapped to face a lethal terror inside. With the camera running, nothing may survive but the film itself.
