In this episode of MOZ Presents: The Munchies, Brother D review two DVDs; Alien Raiders is a throwback to B-movie science fiction fun told through the lens of a tense science fiction thriller and American Scary is an entertaining and heart-warming documentary telling the story of the American television horror host. Based on the best-selling novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist, Let the Right One In weaves friendship, rejection and loyalty into a disturbing and darkly atmospheric, yet poetic and unexpectedly tender tableau of adolescence. Helmed by Swedish filmmaker Tomas Alfredson, Let the Right One In is the first release of the Magnet Six Shooter film series, a collection of six high-quality films that aims to bring fans a mix of the most intelligent, genre-bending titles available. Regularly bullied by his stronger classmates, 12-year-old Oskar's wish for a friend seems to come true when he meets his new neighbor Eli. A pale, serious young girl, Eli only comes out at night and doesn't seem affected by the freezing temperatures. Coinciding with her arrival is a series of inexplicable disappearances and murders. One man is found tied to a tree, another frozen in the lake, a woman bitten in the neck. Blood seems to be the common denominator - and for an introverted boy like Oskar, who is fascinated by gruesome stories, it doesn't take long before he figures out that Eli is a vampire. But by now a subtle romance has blossomed between the two, and she gives him the strength to fight back against his aggressors. Oskar becomes increasingly aware of the tragic, inhuman dimension of Eli's plight, but cannot bring himself to forsake her. Frozen forever in a twelve-year-old's body, with all the burgeoning feelings and confused emotions of a young adolescent, Eli knows that she can only continue to live if she keeps on moving. But when Oskar faces his darkest hour, Eli returns to defend him the only way she can . . . We here at Mail Order Zombie are eager to review this movie, and you can expect one once we get closer to the release date!

Mail Order Zombie goes Old West (sort of) and overseas with two more movie reviews this week - Brother D reviews the recently-released Dead Noon, and then Miss Bren joins him for a discussion of the South Korean movie The Guardpost. Because MOZ Central is gearing up for the 1st Annual Dead Letter Awards next week, instead of Brother D reviewing another straight-to-DVD zombie movie on his own like he normally would, some members of the Mail Order Zombie family have contributed material for this week's show. O'Day submits the second installment in his series of survival tips, and everyone's favorite living impaired family member Wayne Kotke conducts a phone interview with Timothy Mather, director of No. My Other Possessed Zombie Girlfriend. Busy for the awards show or not, Miss Bren and Brother D still have time to go over the voicemails and emails from the previous week for this episode's Feedback Discussion as well. Variety calls the end of Dead in 3 Days "genuinely thrilling." On a quiet lakeside, a celebratory gathering of recent graduates grows grim as each of them receives an eerie text message; “In 3 days you’re dead.” The gang assumes it’s a joke at first, but no one is laughing when members of the group begin to turn up dead. As the body count rises and the slayings become more and more vicious, a mysterious clue leading to the killer’s identity is discovered . . . but time is running out. This DVD hits the street on March 3, 2009, and we have three copies of to give away! To win a copy of Dead in 3 Days, just email MailOrderZombie@gmail.com with "Dead in 3 Days" in the subject heading and your name and mailing address in the body and you'll be entered to win! Only one entry per person. Winners will be announced on March 3 - good luck!

There's no way Brother D - a longtime fan of all things Friday the 13th (although he's never seen the television series - he needs to get on the ball on that one!) - is going to let the 2009 remake / reimagining / rewhatevering version of Friday the 13th hit the screen and not talk about it. After a 12:01am showing on Friday the 13th, he raced home to record a review of the flick. Also, the winners from the Tales from the Darkside: The First Season DVD contest are announced. |

It's Civil War week here at Mail Order Zombie. Brother D reviews two Civil War movies when he casts his ever-critical eye on Grey Knight and Curse of the Cannibal Confederates. Miss Bren does double-duty this week - she not only helps with the week's Feedback Discussion, but she also stops by to discuss five Civil War-themed zombie short stories as well. We're still accepting answers for the current Zombie Aptitude Test. This episode did run a bit longer than we planned, so thanks for hanging in there with us! This could be one of the greatest vampire movies EVER! http://www.sonypictures.com/sphe/againstdark/tao_high.wmv Katana master Tao (Steven Seagal) leads a special ops squad of ex-military vigilantes on a massacre mission, their target: vampires. On the post-apocalyptic globe, sucked dry by bloodthirsty vampires, a few remaining survivors are trapped in an infected hospital. Tao is their only hope and he knows the only cure is execution. Now it's time for the last stand against the flesh-eating vampires and there's nothing left to lose but the last of humanity. Against the Dark was released to DVD TODAY, Febraury 10, and while we normally go for zombie movies here at Mail Order Zombie Central, I can't help but feel the draw of this movie! Steven Seagal? Keith David? VAMPIRES? http://www.sonypictures.com/sphe/againstdark/huntin_high.wmv I dare you to watch these clips and not want to watch this movie!

His Name Was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th hits DVD this week, and Brother D has had an opportunity to check it out. No, he doesn't re-open the is-he-or-isn't-he debate of whether or not Jason Voorhees is a zombie (although the word "zombie" is mentioned twice in this documentary!), but he does take a look at this 2-disc DVD set which features material from every Friday the 13th film. Additionally, the winners of the Death Race DVDs are announced. Friday the 13th at the Mail Order Zombie Marketplace - http://tinyurl.com/MOZF13 |
